Wall Art
Mediterranean Sunset
A large wall
piece consisting of two identical mirror image polished planks of
seasoned wood cut from an American ornamental hardwood tree; Locust
- Robinia (Pseudoacacia). The tree trunk was acquired by
Mike Kemp of Tree Dimension
- Meifod, from a garden in Berriew, after it was blown down in
the autumn gales of '96.
The internal
shape reminded me of the Moorish influences on some of the windows
on properties along the coast of the Costa del Sol, in particular
the shapes on windows and window trellises found in El Hambra, near
Granada.
I have created a
fused glass insert consisting of images of the setting sun, blue sea
and sky, and the colours of the mountain that is immediately behind
Estepona. The glass insert is boxed in and surrounded by a
thin strip of LED lights, which bounce off the crumpled silver foil
back. This creates light and depth to the piece. You can
almost feel the heat of the sun as you look at it.
It is hung
from the wall by a sturdy chain.
Height 132.5 cm
x 74 cm width with a depth of 7 cm, including light box at rear.

Mondrian, style of, in glass
Simple,
yet effective, wall piece. Tack fused triangles and square
colours in between black lines. I have deliberately offset the
black lines to create more interest.
With this
design, I was trying to replicate the work, and simplicity, of
Mondrian.

All That
Jazz
A very complicated creation. - I combed a large piece of glass,
which consisted of a number of colours including iridescent
green. I then cut it into 10 cm square tiles. These
were set into a cold rolled, powder coated, steel design created
by Phil Rogers
of Down to Earth.
Combing is a
very difficult and dangerous process and produces the most
amazing effects. As you are working with red hot molten
glass it is impossible to know what the outcome will be.

Approx 47 cm in width
